Reiki

If you have any questions about Reiki and would like a chat, please feel free to contact me. I am insured with and a member of the Complementary Therapists Association which lists approved therapists in the Embody Guide to Reiki section of their website.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a wonderful system which is suitable for rebalancing at any level, be it physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental. The process stimulates the body to heal itself and all I am doing is channelling energy to the areas of need. Energy centres within the body (chakras) are rebalanced by Reiki energy, helping to restore health. A Reiki treatment is a gentle experience and I welcome people with any complaints, acute or chronic.

What to expect from a treatment

Anyone can receive a Reiki treatment and there is no need to have a particular belief. The only thing you need is the desire to be healed.

Receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is very simple and all the recipient does is lie or sit comfortably and relax. The treatment is given fully clothed and the practitioner places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole process usually takes an hour or so and the whole body is treated, rather than specific symptoms.

Before the treatment, I will ask some questions about your medical background and any particular health issues.

Frequently asked questions

The information below tries to answer commonly asked questions about Reiki. However, as everyone is different, each individual will experience it in a slightly different way.

Where does Reiki come from?
Reiki was developed in Japan but is now practiced widely throughout the world as a gentle, holistic way of healing.

What is involved in a treatment?
A session lasts for about an hour and all you need to do is relax! You remain fully clothed throughout and all healing is carried out through discretely placed hands. You may want to chat or remain silent – either is fine. Music, essential oils or incense can be used to further relax you if you wish. Before the treatment I will ask you briefly about your personal history. All information provided is confidential.

How will I feel?
This varies from person to person. Some will notice a sensation of warmth, cool or tingling where the Reiki is being received. Others will not feel anything but may notice that they feel very relaxed. A treatment may make you feel more lively or may make you feel sleepy.

Do I need to do anything before or after?
Make sure you are wearing something comfortable but otherwise come as you are! If possible, try and arrange to have some spare time after the treatment to allow yourself to relax. Drinking plenty of water before, during and after the treatment is beneficial, helping to flush toxins out of the system.

Are there any side effects?
Reiki supports the body’s natural processes so there are no side effects as such. As the body is stimulated to heal some people experience a change in symptoms but this is a positive sign, showing that the body is responding to the treatment. On the whole, people find that energy levels and wellbeing increase.

How often will I need to come?
This very much depends on the individual but often, the longer a symptom has been present for then the longer it takes to heal. Many people enjoy a regular Reiki treatment to maintain good health and anything from once a week to once a month is appropriate. Reiki is also suitable as a one off treat.
