New Review of Homeopathy

A new Review of Homeopathy Trials is underway, as outlined in the journal Homeopathy.

The authors, Robert T. Mathie, Daniela Hacke, Jürgen Clausen, Ton Nicolai, David S. Riley and Peter Fisher explained that they have classified all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in homeopathy to date (up to December 2011) into a number of categories including: placebo controlled versus other-than-placebo (OTP) controlled; individualised versus non-individualised homeopathy; peer-reviewed (PR) versus non peer-reviewed (NPR) sources.

For this new review they are focussing on the 263 studies – placebo-controlled, RCT’s (out of a possible 489) studies (63% if which have been Peer Reviewed; and 70% of these PR studies were on non-individualised homeopathy).

The reviewers will undertake a meta-analysis of these studies, focussing on the PR (63%) papers

It is interesting to note that over the years studies of homeopathic treatment (from the whole 263 articles) that the most studied ‘conditions’ have involved Surgery and Anaesthesiology, Allergy and Asthma, Ear Nose and Throat, Musculoskeletal, Mental Disorders and Respiratory Infections.

Hearts have their own Consciousness

Experiments conducted at the Institute of HeartMath have found remarkable evidence that the heart’s electromagnetic field can transmit information between people and that the heart has it’s own consciousness. This is why it is so important to treat ourselves holistically, rather than viewing parts of the body and symptoms in isolation. See the full article here.

The authors say: “We have been able to measure an exchange of heart energy between individuals up to 5 feet apart. We have also found that one person’s brain waves can actually synchronize to another person’s heart.

Furthermore, when an individual is generating a coherent heart rhythm, synchronization between that person’s brain waves and another person’s heartbeat is more likely to occur. These findings have intriguing implications, suggesting that individuals in a psychophysiologically coherent state become more aware of the information encoded in the heart fields of those around them.

The results of these experiments have led us to infer that the nervous system acts as an “antenna,” which is tuned to and responds to the electromagnetic fields produced by the hearts of other individuals.”

Homeopathic Remedies show ‘Positive Results’ in Cancer Treatment

Research published in the Journal of Acupuncture and Meridian Studies has looked at the effects of combining two different homeopathic remedies – Cholesterinum (Chol) and Natrum Sulphuricum (Nat Sulph) – against cancer.

The researchers from the Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology Laboratory, Department of Zoology, University of Kalyani, Kalyani, India showed positive results, with the homeopathic remedies leading to an increase in the activity of key hypertoxicity biomarkers like aspartate (AST), alanine aminotransferases (ALT), alkaline phosphatases (AcP and AlkP), and a decrease in activities of key antioxidant biomarkers like superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT).

Successful use of Homeopathy for Hot Flushes

Research undertaken in France in at 35 centres (gynecologists in private practice) amongst 101 menopausal women – experiencing at least 5 hot flushes a day – has shown that a ‘complex’ homeopathic remedy has had significant success. The study was undertaken by researchers from the Department of Gynaecology, at the Hospital Foch, in Suresnes, France.

Taking the main outcome measure as the hot ‘flash’ score (HFS) and also using the quality of life (QoL) [measured using the Hot Flash Related Daily Interference Scale (HFRDIS)], and severity of symptoms scores (measured using the Menopause Rating Scale).

The test subjects were given a homeopathic remedy made by Boiron, called “BRN-01”.

It is a registered homeopathic medicine and contains;

Actaea racemosa (4 centesimal dilutions [4CH]),

Arnica montana (4CH),

Glonoinum (4CH),

Lachesis mutus (5CH), and

Sanguinaria canadensis (4CH),

The researchers concluded that the BRN-01 seemed to have a significant effect on thehot ‘flash’ score (HFS), compared with placebo and that this homeopathic remedy may be considered a new therapeutic option, without unwanted side-effects, to treat menopausal women who are experiencing hot flushes – especially those who do not want to use hormone replacement therapy.

Homeopathy for Whooping Cough

In an online article Dr Larry Malerba, D.O., DHt, – “a physician, educator, author and Clinical Assistant Professor at New York Medical College” has reviewed the medical options open to physicians in the US – when it comes to treating the rising numbers of pertussis (Whooping Cough) in the US.

He believes that there aren’t many effective options open to those using a conventional medical approach and exposes the fallacy that this rise in cases is due to the increasing numbers of unvaccinated children – when the statistics actually show that  the large majority of cases are contracted by those who have already been vaccinated.

He argues against the latest medical advice being promulgated that children should be vaccinated again (to boost immunity to pertussis) – and that pregnant women, teens and adults should get vaccinated – when in his own clinical experience he has found that homeopathy is a viable option for pertussis.

He examines not just his own experiences with using homeopathic remedies to treat Whooping Cough, but also notes that “There are thousands of homeopathic practitioners across the globe who can testify to similar results.“

He goes on to say that, “to dismiss a treatment for an illness that has no other effective therapy — primarily because of a lack of research studies published in conventional medical journals that “prove” its effectiveness — demonstrates an anti-scientific attitude that, in actuality, amounts to a form of inflexible and uninformed prejudice”.

He does explain that patients with Whooping Cough must go to a properly qualified homeopath – as different remedies may be required for different patients. He does go on to discuss the effectiveness of six different homeopathic remedies for this condition (all of which are FDA regulated in the US):
