Freebies and Gut Health

As part of a whole month of FREE online classes being offered in March at the Trafford House Calm Centre (see below), you can book here to see me doing a short 15 minute talk about

Gut Health on Friday 12th March at midday.

Dates are yet to be confirmed for the full six weeks gut health course which will run in April but if you like the sound of it, sign up to have a taster of what is on offer. If you can’t make the 12th, the video will be available afterwards.

Most people will know that I am somewhat obsessed with gut health, but why not when it is so influential in the body? It’s a fascinating subject and also crucial to get right as a healthy gut is key to so many things including mental health, cognitive function, immunity, weight control, skin health, response to inflammation, autoimmune conditions and sleep as well as the obvious role of digestion and nutrient absorption.

If you are in need of a little calm, or fancy something new then have a look at the Trafford House Calm Centre who run online classes on Kum Nye, Pilates, Kinesiology, self-relaxation and more. For the whole of March, their classes are free. Just follow this link.

Things That Help

I hope that this finds you well and in good spirits. I am feeling very blessed by the sunshine and by nature springing into life around us. And it’s a chance to do things differently. Not always by choice admittedly but an opportunity none-the-less.

When we are forced to stay closer to home, we examine things more deeply. In a physical sense, my family and I have been exploring new paths and have found woods just a mile from home that we never knew existed.

On a personal level, the less we are able to ‘do’ the more we get to know ourselves, our patterns, our responses and our ways of being. And those we live with if we are not on our own. While this can feel like a gentle unfolding and expanding into space we didn’t previously have, sometimes it raises uncomfortable feelings and questions.

This can feel harder than usual in the face of endless speculation and very obvious concerns and may feel overwhelming. I am reminded of the story of the boy and his grandfather watching two wolves fighting. The boy asks ‘who will win?’. The grandfather replies ‘whichever one you feed’. This shows us that whatever we give our attention to will prevail – if we focus on fear then it will gain more significance in our lives than the positives. I’m not advocating blindly ignoring the issues but nurturing ourselves and keeping a balance is vital.

The internet is awash with a load of brilliant resources: yoga sessions, guides on meditation, podcasts and I could create a vast list but here are just a few that stand out for me.

  • A brilliant essay which seems (to me) to offer an intelligent and balanced overview of the situation:
  • A great virus protection protocol from the Medical Medium.
  • A beautiful gong bath.
  • A reminder from the Trauma Network UK (via Facebook) that a lot of these feelings are a perfectly normal response in the face of a global issue. Click here.
  • Good feedback about homeopathy in the news!

Zoom and WhatsApp appointments are working out well. If you would like an appointment, please do get in touch

Swiss government recognises homeopathy

Broadening their definition of medicine, the Swiss government is making a positive shift toward alternative healing and complementary therapies. They are now allowing patients’ health insurance plans to cover five new complementary therapies.

In May 2017, health insurance plans in Switzerland started covering a variety of healing modalities, including homeopathy, acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine, herbal medicine and holistic medicine. In this way, Switzerland is supporting healing arts that were used successfully in the past.

Homeopathy for Dengue Fever

Homeopathic ‘Eupatorium perfoliatum,’ has been successfully used throughout parts of India plagued by dengue epidemics, according to an article in HomeopathyPlus.

In 2012, the Government Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital at Tirumangalam organised over 30 camps to distribute the remedy. Pills were given to over 8,000 people at the camp and many more were waiting to get the medicine.

“We are witnessing a huge response everywhere owing to increased awareness among the public. There is an adequate stock of medicine and more orders will be placed to meet the demand,” said Gopalakrishnan, Principal in-charge of Government Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital.

He said that homeopathy medicine for dengue control was becoming popular and that local bodies were coming forward to sponsor the camps.
India is not alone in using homeopathy to treat and prevent its dengue epidemics. Cuba and Sri Lanka have done similarly. Its current use in India demonstrates three big advantages of homeopathy for epidemcis – (1) the remedies can be rapidly manufactured to meet demand, (2) they are inexpensive – even the poorest can be assisted, and distribution is easy – (3) there is no need for highly trained health professionals, cold storage, needles, syringes or complex packaging.

Thank your Pain….

So often it’s easy to hate our pain and discomfort and just wish it would go away. But how about seeing it as a message from the supremely intelligent system that is your body, mind, emotions and soul, letting you know that something is not right? When we see it like this, it becomes a gift as it gives us the opportunity to make changes.

The Felt Sense Prayer

I am the pain in your head, the knot in your stomach, the unspoken grief in your smile.
I am your high blood sugar, your elevated blood pressure, your fear of challenge, your lack of trust.
I am your hot flashes, your cold hands and feet, your agitation and your fatigue.
I am your shortness of breath, your fragile low back, the cramp in you r neck, the despair in your sigh.
I am the pressure on your heart, the pain down your arm, your bloated abdomen, your constant hunger.
I am where you hurt, the fear that persists, your sadness of dreams unfulfilled.
I am your symptoms, the causes of your concern, the signs of imbalance, your condition of dis-ease.
You tend to disown me, suppress me, ignore me, inflate me, coddle me, condemn me.
I am not coming forth for myself as I am not separate from all that is you.
I come to garner your attention, to enjoin your embrace so I can reveal my secrets.
I have only your best interests at heart as I seek health and wholeness by simply announcing myself.
You usually want me to go away immediately, to disappear, to sleek back into obscurity.
You mostly are irritated or frightened and many times shocked by my arrival.
From this stance you medicate in order to eradicate me.
Ignoring me, not exploring me, is your preferred response.
More times than not I am only the most recent notes of a long symphony, the most evident branches of roots that have been challenged for seasons.Hread
So I implore you, I am a messenger with good news, as disturbing as I can be at times.
I am wanting to guide you back to those tender places in yourself,
the place where you can hold yourself with compassion and honesty.
If you look beyond my appearance you may find that I am a voice from your soul.
Calling to you from places deep within that seek your conscious alignment.
I may ask you to alter your diet, get more sleep, exercise regularly, breathe more consciously.
I might encourage you to see a vaster reality and worry less about the day to day fluctuations of life.
I may ask you to explore the bonds and the wounds of your relationships.
I may remind you to be more generous and expansive or to attend to protecting your heart from insult.
I might have you laugh more, spend more time in nature, eat when you are hungry and less when pained or bored, spend time every day, if only for a few minutes, being still.
Wherever I lead you, my hope is that you will realize that success will not be measured by my eradication, but by the shift in the internal landscape from which I emerge.
I am your friend, not your enemy. I have no desire to bring pain and suffering into your life.
I am simply tugging at your sleeve, too long immune to gentle nudges.
I desire for you to allow me to speak to you in a way that enlivens your higher instincts for self care.
My charge is to energize you to listen to me with the sensitive ear and heart
of a mother attending to her precious baby.
You are a being so vast, so complex, with amazing capacities for self-regulation and healing.
Let me be one of the harbingers that lead you to the mysterious core of your being
where insight and wisdom are naturally available when called upon with a sincere heart.
