It is World Homeopathy Awareness Week again and what better opportunity to blow the trumpet of the second largest system of medicine in the world? We can also wish the founder a happy birthday – Samuel Hahnemann was born on the 10th April 1755 and dedicated his life to developing homeopathy after he moved on from his medical career.

Globally, homeopathy is used by over 200 million people, is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and, during this week, is celebrated by organisations like the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths who produce lots of materials (click here for a link to their You Tube on sustainable homeopathy or here to see their channel). On a more personal level, I am blessed to have used homeopathy pretty much every day for over 20 years as a practitioner. It is good to take a step back and remember why I have been doing this. There are so many reasons but the top five for me are:
It works! There’s never a modality that suits everyone but homeopathy can be effective in a huge range of conditions. Stimulating the body to heal itself improves symptoms, decreases drug use and enhances overall, underlying health.
I get to work with people who have given up hope of ever feeling better, having exhausted every other avenue of treatment. Chronic or ‘tricky’ conditions or those that are hard to treat conventionally are often helped by homeopathy.
The whole person is paramount – every aspect of the individual is taken into account while prescribing, recognising that we have unique needs and that physical, mental and emotional wellbeing are interconnected.
Homeopathy is widely considered to be extremely safe – there are no side effects, it is non-addictive, there are very minimal chances aggravations (and if they do happen, they are simply managed) and no suppression of symptoms which lead to a deterioration of health.
You can get better and help the planet. Remedies are non-toxic and involve very few resources to make, store or distribute. In reducing the chemicals used in human populations and agriculture, homeopathy actively decreases the pollution we create. Remedies are developed using human volunteers, not animal testing.
