If you have any questions about homeopathy and would like a chat, please feel free to contact me. I am fully insured with and a member of the Complementary Therapists Association which lists approved therapists in the Embody Guide to Homeopathy section of their website.

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of healing which uses very low dose preparations administered according to the principle that "like should be cured with like." Practitioners use highly diluted substances that would, if given undiluted to a healthy volunteer, cause the symptoms which the patient is experiencing. For example, the homeopathic remedy Apis is derived from bee sting. If someone is stung by a bee, they might expect an area of pink or red, painful swelling to occur. Apis can be used to treat similar symptoms in patients, in conditions such as oedema, bites or spots.

The founder, Hahnemann, believed that the approach to being well should be addressed from a viewpoint of vitality (life and health of the individual) rather than the study of disease and the suppression of symptoms. This vitality is described as vital force and it keeps the body healthy unless it is disturbed in some way, for example by diet, injury, trauma, shock, toxicity, mental disturbance or emotional upset. Of course these kind of things happen to us all the time and different individuals respond in different ways. Some may not be affected but others may start to produce symptoms. An obvious example of this is that when we are tired, run down or stressed we are more likely to produce symptoms which we often call ‘a cold’. Homeopaths view these symptoms as ‘cries for help’ from the body. By listening to them, we can identify and deal with the problems to restore an individual to health.

What to expect from a treatment

Homeopathy works energetically to restore vitality so homeopaths look at the whole body and the balance within it rather than the specific part which is affected. it is essential to get a full picture of what that person is like. Therefore, the initial session is dedicated to building up a comprehensive picture of you so that your needs can be matched to the most appropriate remedy. The first consultation will take around an hour and a half while follow up sessions should take around half an hour. Following the appointment you will receive remedies with clear instructions on how to take them. Remedies can be taken with any prescribed or other drugs.

Building a good relationship between the practitioner and patient is critical to foster healing and support is available between appointments where necessary.

Low cost maintenance programme

Once initial health problems have been resolved through these regular appointments, I welcome patients on a low cost maintenance programme to deal with acute problems such as coughs, colds, toothache, headaches, period pains, upset stomachs, childhood illnesses, minor accidents, infections, exam nerves etc.

  • Free at point of use.
  • Homeopathic advice as needed - no appointments required.
  • Acute consultations by ‘phone.
  • Top up of personal first aid kits.
  • FREE face to face appointment every 6 months to catch up.

This service costs just £10 per single member, with discounts for family groups. See prices for detailed information.

I encourage people on the maintenance programme to have their own homeopathic first aid kits at home. This saves time when prescribing commonly used remedies, particularly in acute situations.

For specific events such as pregnancy, travel, major accidents, significant new illnesses etc., I prefer to invite you in for full consultations (prices as for regular follow up appointments) in order to discuss them more fully.

Frequently asked questions

The information below tries to answer commonly asked questions about homeopathy. However, as everyone is different, each individual will experience it in a slightly different way.

Where does homeopathy come from?
Homeopathy was developed in the 19th century by Samuel Hahnemann, a physician who became disillusioned with the violence of medicine at the time. It became a popular and safe alternative to commonly used practices such as blood letting, purges, blistering and the use of toxic drugs. Since then, it has continued to be used as a powerful and gentle way to heal.

What is involved in a treatment?
The initial session lasts for about an hour and a full personal history is taken as well as information about the family. We will explore your likes and dislikes as well as emotional aspects. This gives me valuable information about your predispositions and individual characteristics. Treatment is for you and we will work as a team to restore you to health. All information provided is confidential.

Are there any side effects?
Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic so side effects are incredibly rare. As the body is stimulated to heal some people experience a change in symptoms but this is a positive sign that the body is responding to the treatment. In my experience, most people find that energy levels and wellbeing increase and often other symptoms, apart from those that are being treated, simultaneously improve.

How long will I need to be treated for?
This very much depends on the individual but as a very rough guide, the longer a symptom has been present for then the longer it takes to heal. However, there are exceptions to every rule! Some chronic cases can be cured with one treatment while others take longer to shift. Many people find homeopathy so beneficial that they keep up their treatment after the original symptom has abated to maintain overall health.

I am going on holiday - can homeopathy help?
Homeopathic remedies are excellent to take with you to help deal with holiday tums, insect bites, effects of altitude, sun, jet lag, travel sickness etc. Please contact me if you would like me to provide a travel kit for you.

I am going into hospital - can homeopathy help?
Homeopathic remedies are brilliant support to take pre, post or during operations or labour. They can minimise the negative effects of surgery and assist healing. Please contact me if you are interested in finding out more.

I am considering alternatives to vaccinations - can you help?
This is a well debated topic and there is too much information to go into here. The Informed Parent is a very useful website and I am very happy to discuss vaccinations and alternatives if you contact me.
